|Teaching Style||I believe in Servant Leadership. What’s that? Well…This term, created by Robert Greenleaf in the 1970s, describes a leader often not formally recognized as such. When someone at any level within an organization leads simply by meeting the needs of the team, he or she can be described as a “servant leader.”Servant leaders often lead by example. They have high integrity and lead with generosity. In many ways, servant leadership is a form of democratic leadership because the whole team tends to be involved in decision making. However, servant leaders often “lead from behind,” preferring to stay out of the limelight and letting their team accept recognition for their hard work.
My Take On It…I strive to have high integrity, but I am human. I believe I lead with generosity, but not by giving you your grade. If you work hard, you will be recognized. I grade fairly and honestly. I am generous with my time, I respect your time. This is a democratic leadership in that you do control your grade. We are in this course together and I will do all that I can to help you succeed. That is ONLY, if you help yourself along side me. I truly believe I have provided every possible option for you to succeed. If you need more or something different, you MUST let me know. I do have your back! This model is best for me because it is who I am. The value of education, learning, employment matter greatly to me. I want you to succeed. I believe you are in this course for a reason, not just a seat that was open. The most successful students, help me by building a professional relationship with me. We can joke, laugh, struggle, learn, agonize, and share together. I enjoy hearing about your families, your job, your studies, all the while keeping our relationship professional.I will grade fairly and quickly after the due dates. I can be flexible if you let me know what’s going on. I can be hard on you if I think you’re giving me the run-around.
